Norway uses Norge
Australia uses Aussie
Finland uses Suomi

Norge and Suomi are just the Norwegian and Finnish names for their countries.
Aussie is slang for Australia

Norge is Norwegian for Norway, Suomi is Finnish for Finland, Aussie is just a nickname for an Australian.
These are the names of the country in its official language. Suomi is Finland in Finnish, Norge is Norway in Norwegian. Thats what all countries do. Deutchland is Germany in German. There is no “history” other than the name in the official language of the country

I agree with what’s been posted so far.
The United States of America is known as:
Estadios Unidos in spanish speaking nations.
Etats Unis in French speaking nations.
Plus many more. We are not always known as the USA around the world and neither are other nations. In your are in Spain then South Korea becomes Korea Del Sur. Germany become Alemainia. If you are in Germany and you want to travel to Hungary then you buy a ticket to die Ungarn. If you want to go to France then book passage to Frankreich.
Australia still uses Australia. If necessary it will be shortened to Aussie to fit on banner or something.
Finland, Norway and every other nation use their own name from their own language – Finland and Norway are just their English names. In Finnish they call their country Suomi. In Norway it is Norge
